Undergraduate

PSYC.3120 – Learning and Behavior (UML)

Examines various methods and techniques suitable for the modification of human behavior, based on the principles and findings of experimental studies of animal and human behavior. Considers how such methods can be used in education, mental health and corrections, and self-directed personal change.

PSY 1000 – General Psychology (WMU)

An eclectic approach to a social and behavioral survey of major topics in psychology, including learning, motivation, intelligence, personality, mental illness, and social relations. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – Science and Technology Category.

PSY 4526 – Human Drug Use and Abuse (WMU)
This course provides a general overview of basic pharmacological principles, discusses the behavioral and physiological mechanisms of action of several classes of medicinal and recreational drugs, and surveys the factors thought to contribute to responsible and irresponsible drug intake. Although human drug use and abuse will be the primary focus of the course, non-human research findings will be emphasized where appropriate.

PSY 4600 – Survey of Behavior Analysis Research (WMU)
An overview of diverse topics of behavior analysis research and applications. Topics include; clinical psychology, child psychology, behavioral medicine, environmental quality, developmental disability, education and geriatrics.

PSY 190 Child Psychology (KVCC)
This course serves as an introduction to the physical, intellectual, social, and psychological development of infants, children, and adolescents. Emphasis will be placed on the development of critical thinking regarding the many complex issues that affect humans between conception and the end of adolescence.

PSY 240 Applied Behavior Analysis (KVCC)
This course covers the principles of applied behavior analysis as they have been extended to a variety of settings such as schools, day care centers, hospitals, business and industry, and individual therapy. Functional behavioral assessment and single-case experimental designs will be used to develop and test hypotheses. In addition, students will complete virtual rat laboratory experiments to demonstrate how the fundamentals of operant conditioning buttress applied behavior analysis.

Graduate

PSYC.6630 Experimental Analysis of Behavior (UML)
This course will explore the basic principles of the experimental analysis of behavior and their application to an understanding of learning. Emphasis will be placed on the historical underpinnings of the field, the methods of analysis, and current issues in the field.

PSY 6270 – Supervision and ABA (WMU)
Whether your interests in behavior analysis stem from a desire to help people with intellectual disabilities, older adults with dementia, typically developing children, or any other population, you will soon learn (if you haven’t already) that working with these populations will consume only half your time. The other half will be spent working with the people who directly serve these consumers. Most reimbursement systems for behavior analytic services rely on a pyramidal approach to care, in which a behavior analyst is responsible for assessment, treatment development, and plan writing, but must also spend a considerable amount of time supervising the provision of services. Many agencies also place BCBA supervision demands on already certified behavior analysts. While the BACB Professional and Ethical Compliance Code discusses supervision and BACB task lists (both 4th edition and 5th edition) place and emphasis on providing evidence-based supervision and training, there is a breadth of research in the Organizational Behavior Management literature that should inform such practices. This course will survey some of that literature with an emphasis on evidence-based supervision and an understanding of the complexities of well-designed training systems

PSY 6100 – Conditioning And Learning (WMU)
This course examines conditioning and learning from the perspective of the experimental analysis of behavior. Emphasis is placed on basic laboratory research procedures and findings.

PSY 6260 – Behavioral Assessment (WMU)
A critical role of being a behavior analyst in working with a variety of populations is conducting thorough assessments, both initially and on an ongoing basis, to assess and understand socially significant behaviors that may be relevant for developing intervention(s). The assessment process and the product that is derived from it, provides valuable information about the client (e.g., current performance levels, strengths, areas of need) and the relevant settings for the client. This course will provide students with an overview of assessments in the field of applied behavior analysis (as well as clinical and educational settings). Specific focus will be on interviewing skills, contemporary standardized assessments, functional analyses, and summarizing/communicating findings in a meaningful manner for a given audience.

SPED 6041 – Practicum in ABA in Autism and SPED (WMU)
This course is structured to provide an intense hands-on practicum for students seeking an AI endorsement from the MDE and subsequent MA in Special Education. Students will learn to identify and effectively apply teaching strategies and tactics based on evidence-based instructional practices. The course will focus on the following areas of learning: a) analysis of academic and social behavior of students with a broad spectrum of needs including autism and developmental disabilities, b) identification and application of effective teaching tactics from the National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder, and c) applications of evidence-based practices in school and center-based settings. This course provides students with fieldwork in which the course content from methods and assessment classes will be applied. Students will learn to analyze the graphic display of instructional data as they identify and apply effective instructional tactics from the research literature.

SPED 6380 – Applications of Behavior Analysis in SPED (WMU)
This course examines the principles of behavior theory as related to academic and non-academic behaviors of learners with disabilities. General and specific methods for generating, strengthening, and maintaining desirable behavior, and methods for weakening undesirable behavior are presented.

ABSC 802 – Behavior Analysis in Developmental Disabilities.

A graduate seminar that includes an overview of the behavioral characteristics of various developmental disabilities and examination of empirically-supported behavioral approaches to the study and treatment of developmental disabilities. Topics will include classification and etiology, motivation, methods for developing appropriate skills, assessment and treatment of behavior disorders, staff training, and legal and ethical issues related to treatment

PSY 613 – Concepts and Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (Pepperdine University)
This course teaches foundational concepts and principles of applied behavior analysis. Students will learn a range of principles such as mechanisms of learning, respondent conditioning, and operant conditioning. This course will also explore how basic principles of learning are applied to issues of social significance.

PSY 619 Autism Spectrum Disorders (Pepperdine University)
This course examines the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) using a developmental approach that emphasizes how clinical presentation changes with age. Students will review a range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions including intensive early interventions, social skills building, and interventions for older adults. Diversity factors, barriers and challenges to accessing and implementing treatment, and the role of advocacy will also be incorporated.
